Mutterkraut 1-4
Installation of pedestal/plinths/paint/toys/photography by Thommy West /Alu Dibond
different sizes, 2023
“Mutterkraut” is a series of objects that take the plant Tanacetum parthenium as the basis of an aesthetically superior research. Used for centuries as a fever reducer, migraine fighter and abortifacient, there is a plant named after mothers – an herb with many caring properties; ones that are often associated with the demands placed on mothers. “Motherwort” is an exploration of the functions and meanings of materials and plant processes; an exploration of expectations. It expands the spectrum of ways in which “mother” can be read, uniting contrasts, bringing together the unexpected and questioning social ideas and norms. For the exhibition in the Stadtpalais, still life stagings on aluminum dibomds of the objects are arranged in combination with colorful walls, pedestals, plinths to form a large building block toy installation.
